Since 2000, the EMC and the Goodwin-Niering Center for Conservation Biology and Environmental Studies have worked together to sponsor a summer internship designed to give a Connecticut College student the opportunity to work on projects that would further the environmental sustainability of the College.

2007 - Jeff Nemec '09
Using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System as a guideline, Jeff assessed the sustainable building efforts in the second phase of the Hamilton and Marshall renovations. Jeff gathered data on the amount of trash and recyclables generated and disposed and also updated the College's Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory. Even with his many duties, Jeff found time to help maintain the campus organic garden. |

2006 - Elizabeth Parillo '07
Most of Elizabeth's time was spent working with the Konover Construction Company on documenting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria in the renovations of Hamilton and Marshall.

2005 - Ben Tressler '05
Ben worked to ensure that the new sustainable garden got off to a successful start. He also updated the Green House Gas emission inventory (PDF) that was begun by Jenn Dziubeck '05 and researched opportunities for implementation of the College's Green Building Policy

2004 - Courtney Miville '06
Courtney undertook an extensive review of the campus recycling system. Using the information she learned, she designed materials to educate the campus community about how to recycle properly. She also proposed several reforms that would make the recycling program simpler and more effective.

2003 - Jenn Dziubeck '05
Jenn completed an inventory of the College's Green House Gas (GHG) emmisions from 1990 to 2002 that examined both stationary and mobile sources of emissions.

2002 - Matt Turcotte '02
Matt wrote the Green Living student handbook to provide students with a simple guide to integrating environmental practices into their daily lives at Connecticut College

2001 - Erin Waesche '02
Erin was involved in the efforts to obtain and install a smale scale photovoltaics project in front of the Crozier-Williams Student Center. The panel serves both as an educational tool for students and as a symbol of the College's commitment to using clean, renewable sources of energy.
