More than 1000 recent alums make gifts

Connecticut College got a special gift on Monday, April 5, for its 99th birthday.

With 999 Graduates of the Last Decade supporting the College in time for the Founders Day celebration, Trustee Zoe K. Henriquez ’99 fulfilled her pledge to make an Annual Fund gift of $25,000.

As of that Monday afternoon, 1,025 alumni from the GOLD classes had given. That’s a 43 percent increase from a year ago.

“That is fantastic. That is so great,” Henriquez said. She said the challenge reminded alumni how important it is to support their alma mater.

The all-out effort on Facebook, at receptions in Boston and New York, and with e-mail and mail put the College into the consciousness of GOLD alumni, said Ellen Anderson, director of annual giving programs.

Henriquez said she wanted alumni to concentrate on the gift, not the amount – to understand that collectively, their support makes a difference.

The momentum will continue this spring with a follow-up initiated by Christy Burke '93. Members of GOLD classes should watch for details.
