‌‌North Dakotans never have been unthinking or uncompromising, and they don’t deserve to be perceived as such today, writes Catherine McNicol Stock, the Kohn Professor of History at Connecticut College, in a Jan. 19 op-ed in the Grand Forks Herald.

Amidst a national conversation about gun control, Stock, whose family hails from Grand Forks, takes the media to task for “calling red state gun owners everything from ‘gullible’ to ‘crazy’ to ‘stoolies for the National Rifle Association.’”

“Rather than obstruct change, North Dakotans for the past 125 years have created innovative political solutions to problems that threaten their families and communities,” writes Stock.
