All-College Symposium
The All-College Symposium highlights students’ integrative learning in Connections, the College’s reinvention of the liberal arts. Seniors who participate in the College’s Centers for interdisciplinary scholarship or academic Pathways will showcase how their coursework and experiences have informed their studies and learning over four years.

Connecticut College’s arboretum campus sits on 750 acres, and offers a quality of life and a conservation classroom unique among liberal arts institutions.
Students working in the recently-renovated Charles E. Shain Library, a comfortable, usable, technology-rich study space that is at the heart of Conn’s campus.
The College’s greenhouse on campus has been a living laboratory since 1935. An important teaching and research facility used year-round, it spans 3,000 square feet and includes tropical zones, a cactus collection and an orchid collection.
Harris Refectory is the largest dining hall on campus and offers a wide variety of options, including vegetarian and vegan items, freshly made pizza, a stir fry station, pasta and salad bars, and a waffle bar.
Water views. Tempel Green looks out over the Long Island Sound and the Thames River, where the sailing and rowing teams practice.
The Athletic Center overlooks the scenic Thames River and is home to the Dayton Arena for ice hockey, the Ann and Lee Higdon Fitness Center, the Luce Field House with facilities for basketball, tennis, volleyball, squash and handball, in addition to a rock wall for climbing. The complex also has a dedicated training room for rowing, the Silfen Track and Field and a boathouse perched along the river.
Students in the graphics and virtual reality lab can develop realistic avatars, create visualization environments, design entertainment software and work on computer graphics and virtual reality.
World-changing social innovations and social movements—and the people who lead them—emerge from the community level. That’s why Conn offers students a multitude of ways to get close to the day-to-day challenges, the aspirations and the nuances of communities around the world.
As a part of Connections, Seniors present the results of their research and integrative projects completed over four years as part of the annual All-College Symposium, which is open to the entire campus community.
Tempel Green, with its sprawling lawn and views of the Long Island Sound, is the perfect place to attend class outside on a beautiful New England spring day.
In our historic Palmer Auditorium, student productions showcase a variety of creative talent several times each year ranging from musical and dance performances to theater productions.
The College’s arboretum campus offers opportunities for teaching, research, conservation and recreation.
At Conn, botany is its own department, distinct from biology. The department has an international reputation in coastal, marine and estuarine studies. Students develop a strong background in all aspects of plant biology.
Chemistry Professor Stanton Ching’s current research is focused on developing new synthetic routes to porous nanostructured manganese oxides and studying their catalytic activity.
Students construct their own robots in our nationally recognized robotics courses.

New London is a great place to catch some sun in the spring, summer and fall. Ocean Beach is just a quick trip across town and the boardwalk has shops, snacks and games.
Muddy Waters Cafe is a favorite New London gathering place for members of the College community. Other places to find familiar faces include Bean & Leaf, Washington Street Coffee House, and Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock.

Located on the south side of campus, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum's permanent collection consists of over 17,000 paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, furniture and decorative arts, with an emphasis on American art from the 18th through 20th centuries.
Called “the flagship of New London’s indie art scene” by The New York Times, New London’s Hygienic Art features works by local artists, members of the College community and contributors from all over the world. The Hygienic Art Park, pictured here, is a favorite outdoor showcase for musicians.
Hop on Amtrak or rent a Zipcar and you can be in Boston in two hours or New York City in two and a half. The Southeast Regional line also stops in New London, providing easy access to New Haven and points south.
