Arts, Culture, and Economics

Hygienic Art Inc.
One of New London's well-known non-profit art galleries. Our students work primarily as gallery sitters. Sitters may bring laptops, books, CD's, and well-behaved friends, children or dogs.

New London Office of Development & Planning 
A municipal department in the City of New London in which students complete research and assist with the development and planning of the Waterfront Park. Students also help to develop the fair housing program.

New London Public Library 
Provides free access to a diversity of ideas and information through a variety of library materials, services, and experience. Connecticut College students perform a variety of jobs.

Writers Block Ink
Arms young voices with the power of pen and prose, reinforcing teamwork, accountability, and responsibility, igniting social change on the page and stage. Students from The Block (ages 11-19) create original plays with a strong emphasis on spoken word poetry and performance that address personal and social challenges on the community stage.

Education

Higher Edge College Access Program
The College Access Program aims to make higher education a reality for New London’s youth by providing one-on-one counseling through the college admission process. Beyond that, we continue supporting students until they walk across the stage with a college degree in hand.

New London Adult Education
The program provides a wide range of adult education including English as A Second Language, High School Equivalency classes, and alternative high school education. Connecticut College students assist in classrooms, teach, tutor, and organize special events.

New London Schools

New London High School New London High School is the only high school in the city. It has an affiliated Science and Technology Magnet High School right next door.

Nathan Hale Arts Magnet SchoolNathan Hale is one of six public elementary schools in New London. College students have the opportunity to act as tutors or teacher's aides.

Regional Multicultural Magnet School
The school is an elementary magnet school for children of New London and ten surrounding school districts. Connecticut College students teach in classrooms, act as teacher’s aides, tutor, and assist with special projects.

Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet SchoolWinthrop School is a public pre-K-5 school where college students are teacher's aides or act as tutors as part of the America Reads Program.

Environment & Science

FRESH New London
FRESH is a small non-profit organization dedicated to building a sustainable, accessible, and healthy local food system. We engage all members of the New London County community through our five-acre vegetable farm, urban community garden, farmshare program, mobile farmers’ market, and outreach initiatives.

Mystic Aquarium
Connecticut's number-one tourist attraction offers many displays, education programs, and research programs. Connecticut College students work in the animal care and research division, assist in research projects and teach the public.

Health & Wellness

Alliance for Living
Provides services to people affected by HIV/AIDS and their families. Connecticut College students help to provide non-medical services to patients, such as serving meals and providing transportation.  

Beechwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center
A nursing home, rehabilitation center, and sub-acute care facility. Connecticut College students assist staff and clients with letter writing, reading mail, leading activities and games, leading current event discussions, and organizing music and art activities.

L + M Hospital
A two semester commitment - Students will enhance their customer service skills as well as an opportunity to learn the processes and procedures of a medical facility. Each specific job has their own learning experiences.

Gemma Moran / United Way Labor Food Center
Provides free food to those in need throughout New London County. Volunteers sort, pick up, and deliver food, as well as provide clerical assistance to the center.

Ledge Light Health District
Focuses on public health and demographic research and community health education. Ledge Light tackles a diverse array of subject matters including: Asthma, Breast Health, Cardiovascular Health, Stroke Awareness, Communicable Diseases, Lyme Disease, and HIV/AIDS, among others.

New London Community Meal Center
Provides free, healthy meals to New London residents who cannot afford it. Connecticut College students participate in preparing, serving, and cleaning up after lunch and dinner. Lunch is served five days per week and dinner is served six days per week.

New London Homeless Hospitality Center
Provides a place of safety and welcome to our homeless neighbors. 

New London Senior Center
The Senior Center is the focal point where older persons, as groups or individuals, can get together for services and activities. The primary role of the Center is to meet the needs by linking participants with resources offered by various provider groups.

Safe Futures 
Provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Students assist with group work and special projects, provide childcare, and tutor women and children. Volunteers also help with the center’s transitional housing units.

History and Museums

New London County Historical Society 
Founded in 1870, the New London County Historical Society is the oldest historical organization in eastern Connecticut. 

New London Landmarks
An establishment that stresses the importance of both preservation and education. CC students research New London architecture and help with fundraising, events, and general office duties.

Visual Art Library
The Library's vision is to create a unique resource for present and future artists, art scholarship, and diverse cultural enrichment with a focus on preserving art books that document the visual arts of the 20th and 21st century from around the world.

Psychology, Early Childhood, & Human Development

Boys & Girls Club of SE CT
This is a positive youth development program that promotes and enhances competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Connecticut College students are needed to help with special events, youth work, mentoring and administrative support.

The Center: A Drop-In Learning Center
The mission of the Drop-In Community Learning and Resource Center is to support and nurture the lifelong learning of youth and their families.

Connecticut College Children's Program
The Connecticut College Children's Program is a lab school that offers an environment reflective of exemplary and best practices. It is staffed by professionals, including physical, occupational and speech therapists. The school is play-based and inclusive of children with disabilities. Opportunities exist for faculty and student research, independent study and observation. Connecticut College students participate in all aspects of teaching young children and working with parents.

TVCCA Early Care and Education / New London Head Start
TVCCA is a pre-school center where students assist teachers with educational activities.

Social Services

Habitat for Humanity 
An international non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing organization that welcomes all people to join together to build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter. Connecticut College students join teams of community volunteers to assist in the building process.

Hearing Youth Voices
A youth-led social justice organization in working to create systemic change in the education system in New London, Connecticut.

Immigration Advocacy & Support Services (IASC)
Ensures that immigrants get the full benefit and protection of the law and the support of the community as they attempt to become citizens. IASC helps immigrants become self-sufficient, contributing citizens by providing low cost, high quality legal services, and provides education on immigrant policy for the greater community.

New London Area Food Coalition (Food Pantry)

OIC of New London
Provides consumers with local and national certificates to assist them in obtaining their short and long-term goals by hosting career programs, educational programs, and community support programs.

Striving Toward Empowered Personal Success (S.T.E.P.S) - Empowering Girls, Uplifting Communities.

Spark Makerspace
Spark Makerspace is a community-run workshop & learning center that is open to the general public in southeastern Connecticut.
