Alison Andersen joins the theater faculty in 2017 after serving for four years as the technical director at the McDonogh School in Maryland and as a freelance stage manager in the DC Metro area. As a technical director, she has been responsible for scenic and lighting design as well as construction and installations. Her research interests are international theater and stage management.

She holds a bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts from Goucher College and attended Columbia University School of The Arts in New York City where she was a Shubert Presidential Scholar and earned her MFA in Stage Management.

She has studied and learned from some of Broadway’s best stage managers, including Marybeth Abel at "Wicked" and in iconic institutions such as The American Ballet Theatre and The Metropolitan Opera House. She also completed work experience in stage management with ONCE on Broadway when Arthur Darvill and Joanna Christie assumed the title roles.

She has traveled abroad and lived in Scotland multiple times, where she partook in the International Edinburgh Fringe Festival and completed a stage management residency with the Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

She collaborated with Dana Tai Soon Burgess’ Dance Company for the world premier and partnership with NASA of "We Choose to Go to the Moon" at the Kennedy Center. The work represented the intertwining of art and science and included interviews with astronauts and astrophysicists, as well as a medicine woman whose father was a NASA engineer in the 1960s.

In the fall of 2016 she served as the Technical Director for the United States Naval Academy’s production of "Much Ado About Nothing" and led the Midshipmen in construction.

She has worked regularly with Howard Community College both with the Theatre and Dance Departments, and enjoys mentoring students as they experience the different areas that contribute to a production.

As a stage manager, she has collaborated on many projects, which include plays, musicals, operas, dance concerts, readings and workshops.

Andersen will be teaching Technical Theatre at Connecticut College.

She is an avid traveller and equestrian.
