starring Nicholas Rodriguez
Athey Center, Palmer Auditorium
Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, 8:00 p.m.
Fresh from the Tony Award®-winning revival of Company, Nicholas Rodriguez (One Life to Live, Sex and the City 2) presents Sincerely, Sondheim — a cabaret-style concert celebrating Stephen Sondheim’s era-defining musical genius and his personal dedication to writing to his fans and colleagues. Drawing upon thousands of handwritten letters, Rodriguez reveals fascinating relationships that Sondheim had with fellow legends like Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerry Herman, Lin-Manuel Miranda and others. Performing selections from Company, Into the Woods and more, Rodriguez paints an intimate portrait of the late composer's life while sharing Sondheim’s profound impact on the Broadway performer’s own story.

"Lost Lear"
directed by Dan Colley
Athey Center, Palmer Auditorium
Saturday, October 25, 2025, 7:30 PM
In Dan Colley's "ambitious, visually stimulating production" (Irish Times), Lost Lear follows the story of Joy, a retired actress with dementia, who is reliving her memories of rehearsing King Lear. Taking on the roles of cast and crew, nursing home staff help Joy recreate this memory in a moving and darkly comic remix of Shakespeare’s tragedy. When Joy’s estranged son arrives, he is cast as Cordelia, and must find a way to speak his piece from within the limited role he’s given. With textured storytelling using puppetry, projection and live video effects, Lost Lear is a gripping meditation on theater, artifice and the possibility of communicating across the chasms between us.

Athey Center, Palmer Auditorium

Hailed as “among America’s best” by The New York Times, BalletX pushes the boundaries of classical ballet to tell modern stories with creativity and electric energy. Touring renowned venues such as The Kennedy Center, The Joyce Theater and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, BalletX returns to Connecticut College with an exceptional program of three works: Become a Mountain, simulating the peril, adrenaline and athletic endurance of climbing a mountainside; Big Wig, a contemporary homage to Irish step dance and the larger-than-life curly hairstyles of the '80s; and Macaroni, which turns the 18th-century insult from Yankee Doodle Dandy on its powdered-wigged head in "glittering dance diva mayhem."
