A musical May at Connecticut College
NEW LONDON, Conn. - As the spring semester draws to a close, the Connecticut College Music Department is offering a variety of exciting performances. Unless otherwise stated, all events are free, open to the public and take place on the Connecticut College campus.
- May 1: "Senior Music Recital," seniors Rosa Gilmore (violin) and Karla Wurzel (horn) perform, 11 a.m., Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
- May 1: "Spring Flute Recital," students perform in the final flute recital of the semester, 2:30 p.m., Fortune Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
- May 1: "Jazz in the Courtyard," the college's Jazz Ensemble performs outside under the direction of Gary Buttery; featuring Kate Barber '09, David Castillo '09, Patrick Corbett '09, John Kofol '09, Peter Linton '09, Becky March '09, Alfred Rosenbluth '09 and Jamie Crain '09, 4:15 p.m., Castle Court (Rain Location: Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center)
- May 3: Connecticut College Concert Band perform in "And Now, For Something Completely Different;" performing "The Liberty Bell" by John Philip Sousa, "Nibelungen March" by Richard Wagner and "Godzilla Eats Las Vegas!" by Eric Whitacre. Gary Buttery directs, 8 p.m., Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for the general public, $3 for seniors and students.
- May 4: "Student Recital," music students perform, 4:30 p.m., Fortune Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
- May 4: "Charles Shackford Memorial Student Composers Concert," students perform original compositions under the direction of Art Kreiger, 6:30 p.m., Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
- May 4: "Spring Quartet in Concert," Anthea Kreston (violin), Lynn McCormick (violin), Melinda Daetsch (viola) and Jason Duckles (cello) perform Mendelssohn, Op. 13, 8 p.m., Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
- May 5: "Connecticut College Orchestra Concert," featuring several student soloists as well as some of the most beloved orchestral works, including the "Peer Gynt Suite," Hadyn's "Farewell Symphony" and selections from Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." Anthea Kreston and Jason Duckles conduct, 7:30 p.m., Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for the general public, $3 for seniors and students.
- May 7: "Connecticut College Percussion Ensemble and New Music Ensemble," students perform under the direction of Peter Jarvis, 7 p.m., Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for the general public, $3 for seniors and students.
- May 8: "Senior Guitar Recital," senior Brian Wilson performs, 7 p.m., Harkness Chapel. - May 9: "Senior Cello Recital," senior John Kofol performs, 2 p.m., Fortune Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
