Provocative artist Miguel Gutierrez will perform his emotionally-charged work, "Retrospective Exhibitionist," free in Connecticut College's Meyer's Studio Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. The performance contains nudity and strong emotions. In this landmark solo, Gutierrez investigates the two sides of every performance - what the performer presents and what the performer feels. Using a TV and VCR, boom box, video camera and other props, Gutierrez explores the unraveling of time and its impact on live performance.

"Miguel is a complex thinker and doer, a true activist, who loves dance, art and people. I've seen this solo several times, and each time I revel in something new," David Dorfman, influential dancer and choreographer and Connecticut College professor of dance, said. "I think of Miguel as a radical romantic. I'm thrilled he'll be in our community."

An active figure in the New York performance scene for the past 12 years, Gutierrez has performed solo and with his group, "Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People," throughout the United States and internationally. He is a two-time winner of the New York Dance and Performance "Bessie" Award. Gutierrez is also the inventor of Death Electric Emo Protest or 'DEEP' Aerobics, which he describes as "an absurd workout for the leftist imagination revolutionary in all of us."

Gutierrez will teach a free DEEP Aerobics class at midnight on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Myers Studio, located on the third floor of the College Center at Crozier-Williams.

Both events are open to the public.
