Cambodia-based dance ensemble kicks off riveting season of onStage at Connecticut College Sept. 25

onStage at Connecticut College opens the 2010-11 season with "The Lives of Giants" by the Khmer Arts Ensemble, a Cambodia-based dance group known for its original choreography, detailed costumes and majestic elegance, Saturday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. "The Lives of Giants" tells the tale of Akheang Khamaso, a mistreated giant in the heavenly temple of Shiva who seeks a weapon to protect himself from the taunts of mischievous angels.

The 2010-11 onStage season features an additional array of international acts, including two-time Grammy nominated Tiempo Libre Oct. 16; Ireland´s Gare St. Lazare Players Nov. 12; and African guitarists Habib Koité, Oliver Mtukudzi and Afel Bocoum Feb. 26. "With artists coming to us from all over the globe, including Africa, Ireland and Southeast Asia, the season of onStage at Connecticut College is our most international to date," Robert Richter, director of arts programming, said, "and it has something for everyone." The onStage season also features an Oct. 29 performance by pianist Christopher O´Riley and April 8 the vocal ensemble Lionheart joins the string quartet Ethel to perform "John the Revelator."

Other highlights include a Feb. 4 performance by David Dorfman Dance, "Prophets of Funk-Dance to the Music," and an adaptation of "Macbeth" by the SITI Company on April 1.
