Dave Cornell, Connecticut College head men's lacrosse coach, has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Coach of the Year.

After finishing with just six wins a year ago, Cornell directed the Camels to a 14-3 record and their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.

Fran Shields, the Katherine Wenk Christoffers '45 Director of Athletics and chair of the physical education department, commended the work of Cornell and his staff for all of their accomplishments this spring.

"The success of the men's lacrosse program in 2010 lies squarely on the shoulders of Dave Cornell," Shields said. "His tremendous work ethic in coaching and recruitment, his understanding and application of lacrosse knowledge, his previous experience in excellent programs (Gettysburg, Notre Dame), and his ability to lead young men provided the fuel for a group of student-athletes who were ready to win. This season was a culmination of a four-year journey that will not end here."

Four Camels joined Cornell on the All-NESCAC squad. Senior Steve Dachille of Garden City, N.Y., earned first team honors on the attack.

Dachille exploded with a career-best 44 goals to lead the NESCAC in goals scored. He completed his career in a second place, tied with Tom Gately '91, on the program's all-time goal scoring list with 127 career markers for the Camels.

Junior midfielder Eric Doran (Pennington, N.J.) was joined by sophomores Mike O'Donnell (Winchester, Mass.) and Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.) on the second team for the Camels.

Doran was second on the club behind Dachille with 26 goals scored. He finished in a second place tie in the conference with four game-winning scores and played an instrumental role in killing off penalties in man down situations.

O'Donnell was named to the team as a long stick midfielder. He was a key contributor in the defensive midfield for a team that limited opponents to 7.1 goals per game. O'Donnell excelled in riding and clearing situations, collecting 32 ground balls and inducing numerous turnovers.

Moccia finished second in NESCAC goals against average (7.26 GAA) and was third in the league with a .617 save percentage. He ranked third on the squad with 34 ground balls and averaged 10.24 saves per game in a tremendous season between the pipes.
