onStage at Connecticut College presents Tiempo Libre Oct. 16

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Hot off its third Grammy nomination, the sizzling, dance-inducing Cuban music group Tiempo Libre will perform Saturday, Oct. 16, at 8 p.m. in Connecticut College's Palmer Auditorium.Tiempo Libre's show is a dynamic, passionate performance of the Cuban salsa music called timba - an exciting and engaging combination of Latin jazz and traditional Cuban son.

The group's members studied together at Havana's prestigious Russian-style music conservatory La ENA and reunited in Miami to form the first all-Cuban timba group in the U.S. With performances on Dancing with the Stars and The Tonight Show and concerts worldwide, Tiempo Libre has brought Cuban music to many new audiences. The group's latest CD, Bach in Havana, is a unique fusion of Cuban and classical music that features guest tracks with Yosvany Terry and Paquito D'Rivera. The onStage concert will include music from Bach in Havana, which recently received a Grammy nomination for Best Tropical Latin Album, as well as the group's two other Grammy-nominated timba albums, Lo Que Esperabas and Arroz Con Mango.
