Juniors Shannon Brady and Kelsey Row will spend 10 days this month on a tropical island in the Caribbean. But this is no MTV-style spring break – Brady and Row, both certified EMTs, are headed to Haiti to teach first aid and public health to Haitian students and their teachers.

Together, Brady and Row have raised more than $1,000 to pay for medical supplies they will donate to the schools they visit.

“It's cliché, but you go there to change people, to help people, and they end up helping you. It's a life changing thing," Brady told the New London Patch about the trip , which being sponsored by the Haitian American Caucus, an organization that works to advance opportunities and improve the quality of life for the people of Haiti.

This will be the second humanitarian trip to Haiti for Brady, a biochemistry and molecular biology major, and the first for Row, also a biochemistry and molecular biology major. Both women are premed and plan to apply to medical school in the coming months.
