US Sailing Team member Maggie Shea ’11 has qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo this summer. Shea qualified after winning the bronze medal at the 49erFX World Championships in Geelong, Australia.

“Our progress and this entire journey, for that matter, would not have been possible without the amazing team behind us. We have such an army of supporters,” said Shea, who sails with teammate Stephanie Roble.

This is the first World Championship medal won by an American 49erFX pair, according to US Sailing.

Shea is a former All-American Honorable Mention (2009) at Conn. In 2011, she helped Conn finish second at the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women’s National Championship. Shea was named NEISA Sportswoman of the Year in 2011.
