Camels lead the nation with 26 NFHCA National Academic Squad honorees

Twenty-six members of the Connecticut College field hockey team have been named to the 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, marking the highest number of honorees from any institution in the country.

The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, celebrates the academic excellence of undergraduate collegiate student-athletes. This prestigious recognition is bestowed upon individuals who have attained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester of the current academic year, and who have been nominated by their dedicated NFHCA member coaches.

Eight Camel seniors—Ellie Brown ’24, Sydney Cresta ’24, McKalynn Jacobsen ’24, Abby Krahmer ’24, Grace LaVigne ’24, Bridget Mason ’24, Hope Melanson ’24 and Elektra Rodger ’24—earned the distinction for the fourth time in their careers.

Middlebury College claimed the second-highest spot with 24 student-athletes honored, while Johns Hopkins University, Juniata College and Shenandoah University tied for third with 22 student-athletes honored each.

Additionally, seven Camels were named NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction, which honors undergraduate student-athletes who have exhibited exceptional academic excellence, achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher throughout the fall semester of the 2023-24 academic year. Those honorees are Sadie Abuhaidar ’25, Kendall Arnold ’26, Krahmer, Maddie Mason ’27, Bridget McGann ’26, Phoebe Shane ’27 and Hannah Webster ’25.
