Activists to discuss what’s ahead for Israel, Palestine
Connecticut College will host a conversation about the future of Israel and Palestine between two well-known activists on Monday, May 4, at 4:30 p.m. in Ernst Common Room of Blaustein Humanities Center.
“Israel and the Palestinians: Toward a Just, Peaceful and Democratic Resolution” will feature Yousef Munayyer, executive director of the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, and Steven M. Cohen, research professor of Jewish social policy at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and director of the Berman Jewish Policy Archive at NYU Wagner. Their discussion will be moderated by Blanche Boyd, the Roman and Tatiana Weller Professor of English and Writer-in-Residence at Connecticut College.
Munayyer, a political analyst and writer, previously directed The Jerusalem Fund for Education and Community Development and its educational program, the Palestine Center, and was a policy analyst with the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. He holds both U.S. and Israeli citizenship.
Cohen taught at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem after teaching at Queens College, Yale, and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He has written hundreds of scholarly articles and policy-related reports, as well as a dozen books including “Two Worlds of Judaism: The Israeli and American Experience” (with Charles Liebman).
“Yousef Munayyer and Steven Cohen are two passionate, engaged activists who haven’t shared a public stage before,” said Professor of Philosophy Lawrence Vogel. “Each participant looks forward to a meaningful exchange across differences.”
