Arts at Connecticut College

Since the College’s founding the arts have been an integral part of our curricular and co-curricular activities, and this tradition continues with our latest season of exceptional programming.  As we reflect on this season’s roster of arts events at Connecticut College, it's inspiring us to think about how human art is, and what power art has on our lives.  Unlike any other being on this planet, humans use art as a means of expression, exploration and introspection.  Though our programming for the coming year is diverse, collectively it is a call to action – not a political or religious movement, but a prompt to stay connected with loved ones, make friends with people across the aisle, take care of Mother Nature, be politically aware but not defined by politics, be honest with yourself and confide your most vulnerable truths to others.  We hope that it will inspire you to appreciate being human, encourage you to be a better human and remind you that you are part of a greater community.  And what better power can art have than that?

Many of the performances and exhibitions bring to mind the idea of staying connected to other humans, our community and to our own humanity. The opener for the onStage Guest Artist Series is a good example of this.  In Sincerely, Sondheim, letters that the late composer wrote are interspersed with his famous catalogue of songs, and as the audience we get to peruse through these letters and into the private life of a public visionary, seeing how human he really was and how his humanity touched others.  It’s impressive how diligent Sondheim was at staying in touch with his correspondents, and it didn’t matter if he was writing to his fans or his famous colleagues.  The insights, the guidance and the gratitude Sondheim shared with these individual confidants is shared with us, and we are both entertained by the music and elevated by the human connections that inspired it.

The coming season is full of these experiences, including student work and the work of seasoned professionals.  We hope that you will come and share them with us.

We list many of our arts events on this site, but you can also join our Arts @ Conn email list for updates.  And stay tuned for our latest edition of the 2025-2026 Arts Brochure!
