Project/Mission Statement
Symphysis is an immersive, experimental performance that looks at the duality of immigration experiences through the unique lenses of hope and nostalgia. By physically separating the performance space into 2 different stages, the show invites audiences to witness a similar narrative from two contrasting perspectives. Mid-way through the experience, the audience transitions between the 2 spaces to then experience the same narrative once again from the other perspective to witness the emotional and sensory contrast. Drawing from real-life stories collected documentary-style with immigrants to the US, this exploration of immigration and its many themes aims to foster an increased understanding and empathy to remind us that every story is worth being told.
